Why Not Empty Your Cup?

I feel like 2016 is sprinting its way to the finish line as it is September already!

I’m not sure where the year has gone. But I can tell you that I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on the things I’ve achieved and those that I’m yet to.

It’s so easy to go into things with a pre-defined understanding of what it is, and what you expect to achieve that we sometimes forget to learn from the journey itself.

We are unable to learn from the journey because our “cup” of knowledge is already full. Anything else going into it simply spills over and the cycle continues.

As I was lying in bed last night, the thought struck me…

Why Not Empty Your Cup?

If you’ve watched “Forbidden Kingdom” with Jackie Chan and Jet Li, then you’ll remember the scene where Michael Angarano’s character is being told that he needs to empty his cup.

So I thought to myself, why not create room to learn something new and experience the journey as it unfolds?

I must admit that this is something I miss from my early blogging days when I didn’t feel the need to fit into a specific “niche” or “define” what my blog was all about.

I’m not saying there’s something wrong with defining your niche. But I do feel like it took away my excitement and passion for blogging so I’m going to do away with it.

With today being the official first day of spring here in Australia, I think it’s an appropriate time to empty our cups of all the things we think we know and create room to learn something new…

To create an environment where we can learn something that we think we already know with open arms and an open heart.

I see myself re-visiting old textbooks and articles that I thought I’d assimilated for my PhD and reading them again with new eyes.

Who knows what’s going to come out of this? I may just learn something new about myself!

What cup are you going to empty in your life?
