This month, I am making a conscious effort to be grateful for my life right now. Exactly as it is. It’s so easy to get lost in the things we wish for, our problems and the hustle and bustle of life. We are getting into that time of the year when there is so much chaos in preparation for the festivities. We are also slowly entering into summer, my least favourite season. Instead of focusing on the heat and the discomfort that comes with the season, I want to be proactive about being grateful for everything I have and this current season in my life. I am human so I am always wanting the next wave of excitement, chasing the next goal and what not. I tend to forget to enjoy the NOW simply because I’m often living in the future. I find that by consciously focusing on the things I am grateful for right now, and searching for the beauty and joy in my daily experience, I get through my day with ease.
With everything that is currently going on in the world, I’ve been getting very emotional and upset. I can’t even begin to imagine what those people (and their families) are going through and these events have made me question how safe we really are. I am reminded that tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is a gift and I must treasure it. For myself, the easiest way to influence my mood/outlook on life is to immediately focus on some of the things I’m grateful for and to experience joy in that moment. I experience joy when i’m surrounded by beauty, be it nature or something man made like a solid concrete slab (random I know). I experience joy sipping on a creamy soy chai latte…the list goes on. I find that gratitude is an easy route to happiness. Each morning as I wake up, I am thankful for being alive. This simple act sets me up for the day to have a grateful heart. What are you grateful for?
