Something Blue

I’ve always wondered why people talked about “something blue” when getting married. I initially thought it was just a way to incorporate colour into a bride’s outfit for the day. As usual, I did a bit of digging to see where it originated from and what it means. According to The Knot, it is from an old English rhyme that goes like this: ‘something olde, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a sixpence in your shoe‘. They are meant to be tokens of love that the bride carries with her on her wedding day to bring some good luck into her wedding day and her life. Something blue represents purity, love, and fidelity in the relationship. I’m not sure that I buy into the ritual of it. But I certainly love the opportunity to incorporate colour into the bride’s outfit. Do you believe in the ritual? How would you incorporate something blue into your ensemble?
